Muscle Activation Techniques® (MAT)
In MAT®, chronic tightness, stiffness, and pain are all viewed as signs of muscle weakness.
MAT® addresses this weakness, resolving these common complaints
among athletes and regular folks alike.

Muscle Activations Techniques® (MAT) is a program developed and owned by Greg Roskopf that he teaches to trainers and therapists across the country. Greg is a biomechanics specialist who specializes in identifying and addressing the biomechanical imbalances that contribute to chronic pain or injury. He has worked with various elite and professional athletes including Peyton Manning and John Lynch, along with acting as a consultant to various professional teams, which include the Denver Broncos.

What is MAT® Rx

Watch and listen to Body Builder and Trainer Vince Del Monte explain Rx in a session with Greg Roskopf.

Vince shares how use of MAT® has helped his body recover from the stresses of exercise. Included in the video, are two of Vince?s appointments with Greg.

The 5 Fundamentals of MAT®

1Increases the contractile efficiency of muscle, which in turn increases muscle stability. This allows people to build strength throughout the entire muscular system.

2Increases the amount of stress the muscles can handle which increases the muscles’ ability to recover from injury and overuse.

3Identifies muscle weakness as the cause of muscle tightness and muscle pain.

4Views muscular tightness as our own Natural Protection Mechanism.

5Increases joint mobility, but not at the expense of stability. MAT first increases stability, or “motor control,” and thus allows for improvements in range of motion.

The outcome of consistent MAT® sessions is the improvement of the muscular system’s ability to recover; and its ability to withstand chemical, emotional and physical stresses increases.

The Benefits of the MAT® Program

Many professional athletes and regular folks use MAT® to shorten recovery time when injured, and as a maintenance tool to keep their bodies at peak performance. MAT® promotes efficient muscle contractibility, which in turn has a positive impact on exercise and recovery time, as MAT® helps to enhance the body’s ability to handle exercise and movement.

There are hundreds of muscles and joints to be evaluated in order to uncover the muscle issues that could be contributing to the loss of physical performance and any associated subjective complaints. This evaluative process leads to numerous sessions of work to solve the identified problems. MAT® is a whole-body approach to overall muscle dysfunction.

MAT® is a method that involves the resetting of the connection between a muscle and the brain, through manual reactivation, which restores mobility and increases muscle contraction while eliminating chronic muscle problems.

MAT® has a cumulative effect; therefore, coming consistently and making time for reinforcement exercises are a significant factor in having success with MAT®. MAT® is a part of the exercise continuum, preparing the body for the stresses of exercise and daily activities. The client is an active participant in the sessions. It is also important to note that there are times when clients to reevaluate their activities and exercise regimen in order to heal.

We consistently encourage our clients to look at the big picture and we believe that patience and awareness are key ingredients to ultimate success.

MAT® in the News

A diving save in soccer is a picture-perfect moment: a gymnastic display of quick reflexes, a gutsy leap with outstretched arms and unfurled fingers. For US women’s national team goalkeeper Hope Solo, preparing for the instant begins not on a grassy surface but a reflective one.

Most runners have been there. The race goes well, but the knee starts screaming shortly after the finish. You try stretching, strengthening, and endless foam rolling. Nothing works. When traditional paths to better health fail, some athletes are finding solutions to vexing injuries by trying neuromuscular therapies. These routines are thought to improve coordination, power, and reaction.

Bryson DeChambeau the winner of the 2017 PGA Tour works with Greg Roskopf. He believes so much in MAT® that he will fly to the headquarters in Denver, Colorado to work with him between golf tournaments.

At only 26 years old, Bryson Dechambeau is one of the world’s youngest international golf champions. A 7-time PGA Tour winner and 2020 U.S. Open Champion, he is only the fifth player in history to win the NCAA Dl Championship and the U.S. Amateur in the same year. Bryson’s goal was to be the longest driver on the PGA tour. He shared that Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT®) has opened new boundaries that he never thought possible. If you are interested in learning more about what MAT® can do for you, please reach out to us at Core Restore for a complimentary consultation.
